The Horncastle Astronomy Weekend (HAW) is a weekend of astronomical talks and observing originally based at Fortuna, Horncastle Business Centre (formally Horncastle College) at Horncastle in Lincolnshire. September 2015 it was held at the Twin Lakes Conference Centre just north of Horncastle and since September 2016 it is held at Minting Village Hall. The astro weekend is aimed at anyone interested in any aspect of astronomy, space and space flight with a mix of guest speakers from across the UK and occasionally from abroad. These consist of both professional speakers and knowledgeable amateur astronomers offering their expertise to the audience. The talks are always set at a level that most people can understand and are, most often than not, entertaining as well as informative. Since 1986 HAW has been organised by Lincolnshire astronomer Paul L Money based in Horncastle.
Although originally established as a residential course by the British Astronomical Association, in recent years the emphasis has been on opening out the format and encouraging non residential attendance for those local enough to travel, in addition to the regular residential attendance. However due to Lincolnshire County Council removing the on site accommodation at the College from January 2011, HAW attendance became only non residential. The full range of talks and activities still take place with most regulars booking local B&B and holiday cottages so they can still attend. If you wish to book a place and require accommodation then let us know and we can send a list of B&B and holiday cottages out to you.
