A BRIEF LINEAGE OF THE BABINGTON'S SINCE 1220
As you will have seen from my Lincolnshire BABINGTON
lineage (back to 1670), we have now, and not for the first time, hit the
proverbial 'brick wall'.
According to 'Pedigree of Babington
family c1813 and c1888 MJBabington and GTClarke' they state that "Descended
from either Ferdinando or Cornelius are the Lincolnshire Babingtons".
It's showing 'proof' of this, rather than the 'suggestion' that is the problem,
for us. Again this lineage up to Ferdinando and Cornelius is shown
in the College of Arms.Brief lineage, not confirmed to ours (Lincolnshire):
John >1220 of Northumberland, England
|
Robert of Northumberland
|
William >1271 of Northumberland
|
Bernard of Northumberland
|
Sir John: living 1335
|
Sir John: 1350 m Benedicta Ward
|
Thomas m Isabel Dethick of Derbyshire
|
Sir John: 1423 m Isabel Bradbourne
|
Thomas: 1465 m Margery then m2 Editha Fitzherbert
|
Sir Anthony: 1475/82 m1 Elizabeth Ormond m2 Katherine Ferrers
|
Thomas of Dethick m Katherine Sacheverell
|
Henry: b1530 of Dethick m1 Frances Markham m2 Mary Darcy
| (See note a below)
George d<1630 m Helen Vine
|
Ferdinando b1594 of Yealing, Middlesex m1(11 May 1624) Mary Bonner
m2 Anne Alvey
| (See note b below)
Children - John b1640 died we believe 1672 (not proved - see note
c below), Ferdinando, Cornelius.(This is where it states "Descended from either Ferdinando or Cornelius
are the Lincolnshire Babingtons")
Notes:
a)
This seems a suspiciously long gap between Henry being born in 1530
and George dying before 1630. Based on average lifetimes it is possible
that at least one ancestor has been missed, however it is also possible
that George did indeed live a long life nearly double the average of the
time!
b)
On Ferdinando (b1594), I have 'gent, of Yealing, Middx, bachelor,
30 and Mary BONNER of same spinster, 18, her father living in Monmouthshire,
a poor man and she having lived by her service these three years past at
All Hallows-in the Wall, London, 11 May 1624".
c)
Now in the Notts IGI's it shows (m2) Ferdinand(o) and Anne
(Alvey) having John bapt 8th October 1640 at Bullwell, Notts. Looking at
the dates this could well be the John
Babington who dies in 1670 (and not 1672) shown on my Babington - Lincolnshire
page. If this can be proved then it gives the FIRST Ferdinando (b1594)
as the actual link to the Lincolnshire Babingtons and not his son Ferdinando
as implied originally. This also ties in well with the average lifespans
of people of that time which is about 30 or so years lifespan, however
this does need more confirmation for me to be satisfied it is the true
lineage.
