Come with Omega Holidays to Southern
Turkey to see the 2006 Solar Eclipse on this
unbeatable-value two-day break in
the company of an expert astronomer.
On
Wednesday, 29 March 2006 the moon’s shadow will sweep a narrow band across the globe on a path starting in Brazil and then over the Atlantic Ocean and African Gold Coast, through the Sahara and Mediterranean Sea to Turkey, before continuing up over the Dead Sea, The Russian Federation and Kazakhstan before ending in Mongolia. The moments of greatest eclipse are expected to be in Libya, with 4 minutes and 7 seconds of totality forecast and the shadow of the moon extending to 180km. By the time it reaches Southern Turkey, at about 1.57pm, local time, the total eclipse is expected to last for up to 3 minutes and 44 seconds. Southern Turkey is usually blessed with
many hours of spring sunshine and
so the chances of having clear skies
when the eclipse occurs are high.
The viewing points are located inside
the path of totality, just a few
kilometres from the central line of the eclipse. If the conditions are right, you should be able to see other stars and planets, too, as the sky darkens. It promises
an unforgettable experience for all.
The two-day break includes a specially
chartered return flight from selected
UK airports to Antalya in Southern
Turkey and overnight accommodation
with Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch
at a 5 star hotel in the resort of
Side, on the Turkish Mediterranean
coast. You will be accompanied by
a guest astronomer who
will give a presentation in the
hotel after dinner about the solar
eclipse and what you can expect
to see. The viewing of the eclipse
will be in the open areas of the hotel grounds. Places on this break are limited and are expected to fill quickly, so an early
reservation is advised.
